At Again Bio I helped take a first-of-a-kind plant from ideation to operation, converting captured CO2 into glacial acetic acid through fermentation, and I owned large parts of what made it run. Over roughly eighteen months the project moved from early front-end studies to a commissioned facility: I developed the downstream process philosophy and validated it through vendor and in-house piloting across our FEL 1 and FEL 2 studies, designed the plant's utility distribution and its gas and water waste-treatment systems along with the associated permitting, and built a fully automated media-preparation system from scratch to operation in under six months. Early on I identified and implemented a change to an organic extraction step that cut capital cost by roughly 5% of total installed cost, around $1.7MM. Alongside the plant itself I stood up lab-scale downstream skids that emulated commercial process conditions, generating the data to sharpen our techno-economic models, and I advised a master's student on a novel extraction process for their thesis. Beyond the current build, I developed several new process pathways aimed at improving the economics of future plant iterations, with patents pending and projected capital savings exceeding $300MM. Across it all I managed construction and electrical partners through mechanical completion, loop checks, and commissioning, working the project at nearly every level from concept to running plant.
